E-commerce in Russia: Hurtling along

The Russian e-commerce sector is maintaining its strong growth, with turnover rising 23 % in 2019 to US$23 billion. Pre-Covid-19 forecasts were for market growth of around 17% in 2020 – however, all bets are now off. Some e-commerce sectors will race ahead, above that forecast. Others will lag, although the overall growth figure will be impressive.

E-commerce in Russia: Upwardly mobile

E-commerce growth continues. Retail e-commerce sales in 2019 are estimated to have grown by 20% to US$25 billion. Growth rates for 2019 are up from 2018, when e-commerce sales increased 13%, to reach a total of US$21 billion.

E-commerce strong growth continues. Retail e-commerce sales in Russia grew by 20% in 2017 and by 19% to nearly US$18 billion in 2018.
Market is still underdeveloped. The Russian e-commerce market still lags: in 2018, 12% of retail sales globally were made online (China: 16%, UK 14.5%, Germany 8.4%) , compared with just 3% in Russia.
